Garbage Environment Design was an art exhibition in Ramallah, Palestine. The international project was carried out in 2016 by the German-French Cultural Centre in Ramallah in cooperation with the University of Siegen, Birzeit University, Haute Ecole des Arts du Rhin and Fab Lab Siegen. Six students from Palestine, France and Germany locked themselves in the basement of the cultural centre for 10 days to reflect on and curate an exhibition about consumption, waste and resources together. The material was collected on the streets of Ramallah – from pallets and plastic bottles to leftover flyers, printers and glass doors, all kinds of “rubbish” was turned into sculptures and installations. We already reported. It was important for the students to communicate “rubbish” not as a local problem in Ramallah, but as a global problem.
